Heidi Mann currently teaches the Rosebud and Sunflower classes before lunch time and the Sunflower class all day on outdoor Fridays. In addition to this, she teaches the Forest Friends Outdoor Kindergarten in the afternoons. She feels grateful to have found a terrific group of families at a school that actively engages children’s minds, bodies, and spirit. She feels that learning in nature with open inquiry is essential to foster a life-long love of learning.
Heidi earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Indiana University with a minor in Special Education and Multicultural Education. She completed her student teaching on the Navaho Reservation in Arizona and later taught third grad e for two years on the Fort Belknap Reservation in Montana. She has recently earned an M.S. in Education Leadership and Policy with a specialty in Ecology and Leadership from Portland State University. Her masters’ thesis was on outdoor learning in early childhood. She has lived in Portland since 1998 and she has taught preschool, kindergarten, and worked in school administration. In her free time, Heidi has volunteered for after school literacy programs and summer camps. She enjoys traveling, eating sushi, and playing outside.
For the 2011-2012 school year, WoodHaven will have a Teacher Assistant for the Rosebud and Sunflower classes as well as a Teacher Assistant for the Forest Friends Outdoor Kindergarten. We will accept applications for these positions in the spring of 2011.
