Annual Events

As a Waldorf inspired school, we observe the festivals commonly practiced in Waldorf schools.  We believe in the spirit of childhood and we celebrate the wonder and awe that is inherent to it.  These annual events are marked with a community gathering that is both reverent and celebratory.

The Lantern Walk is a school wide evening walk through our wooded trails with the children’s handmade lanterns bringing light to the darkness of the season. The November event includes a community harvest potluck.

woodhaven-spiralThe Spiral Walk is a Winter solstice celebration in early December. Each child in turn walks a spiral maze by candlelight symbolizing the light that each of them carries in their heart. The tradition gives children and families a magical moment on which to reflect.

woodhaven-paintingArt Night occurs one evening in the spring. Students’ artwork is hung on the walls of multiple classrooms and hallways as if it were an art gallery. Families attending make an art project together and share appetizers, while enjoying the featured art.

woodhaven-maypoleThe May Day Celebration occurs in May as a part of the regular class day. Children make crowns and walk around a May pole with ribbons. May Day baskets are made and filled with flowers, and the children are encouraged to leave these on a special someone’s doorstep anonymously.

woodhaven-starchildStar Child Celebrations occur for each child’s birthday during the last half hour of the regular school day. The Birthday Child or Star Child sits in a special chair and wears a nature crown that reflects the season as they hear the special story reserved for this special day.
