CLASSES

Ages 3 - 5

Our preschool classes are a gentle introduction to the daily routines of school life. For many children, preschool is the first significant time spent away from their parents/caregiver. A teacher, assistant, family teacher, and a comfortable environment make the children feel at ease. Everyone works together to facilitate a magical environment where creative, child-driven play is encouraged. Each preschool class has space for 12 students.

Woodhaven offers two preschool classes:

Rosebuds: Tuesdays & Thursdays;  9 am – 12:50 pm
Sunflowers: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays;  9 am - 12:50 pm

The classroom is a soothing, home-like environment where our curriculum centers on seasonal changes and observations of the natural world. Seasonal themes guide daily activities and songs, storytelling, and puppets are used to spark young imaginations. Two hours per week is spent indoors.

Woodhaven children spend the remainder of their days outdoors, regardless of the weather. Our outdoor classroom is in the woods, where children experience a combination of free play and facilitated activities such as nature walks, games, bug hunts, bird watching and plant identification. A portion of our outdoor space is a garden, maintained by the children and the parent outdoor coordinator. Learning outdoors helps develop the children’s sense of wonder for nature. They learn to question their world, make observations, and seek understanding.

Admissions Process

  1. Fill out the Interest Form, and we will reach out to set up a time to speak with someone from our enrollment team.

  2. Take a tour or attend an Open House at Woodhaven! You will meet with our Lead Teacher and a currently enrolled family. They will walk you through our indoor classroom as well as our outdoor spaces. Come ready to ask questions!

  3. Complete Enrollment. After your visit, if you’d like to continue with the enrollment process, then we will schedule a family interview.  Upon deciding that Woodhaven and the cooperative model is a good fit for your family and our school, you will be invited to complete an online registration form and pay a non-refundable enrollment fee of $250, which covers insurance, snacks, crafts supplies, etc. In addition, your first tuition payment is non-refundable and due in August.

Open enrollment is held in January each year for the following school year. Due to a limited number of spaces available, we are not able to offer a spot to every family that completes our registration. Priority is given to siblings of current students and alumni families, followed by those families who have completed the online registration. Once we receive the completed online registration form, enrollment fee and first tuition payment, we will contact you to confirm your child's placement on our roster.

A Note About our Selection Process:

As a parent-driven cooperative, Woodhaven relies heavily on our families to eagerly and fully participate in our community. Parents/Caregivers are responsible for regularly assisting in their child’s classroom as well as holding an ongoing job that is essential in running our school. Fundraising for our school is also very important. We fundraise as a community and have many platforms to help us meet our yearly fundraising goals for our school. In partnership with our Teacher, we create a thriving learning community. Please keep in mind that when filling spaces in our classes, we consider families’ interests, talents and skills as well as enthusiasm for our program. We also strive to create and keep a cohesive balance in our classes.

Caregivers and children enjoy snack, learn seasonal circle songs and rhymes, hear stories and play in our peaceful, nurturing classroom. We go outside no matter the weather to explore our beautiful woods and facilitate the children’s innate connection to the wonders of the natural world. Each Sweet Peas class has space for eight children and their caregivers.
