Support Staff

Woodhaven School in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Support Staffer for our preschool for the 2022-23 school year. Woodhaven is a Waldorf-inspired, parent-run cooperative preschool dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of learning and connection to nature in our children. We have been serving the community for over 25 years.

Position Overview:

The purpose of this position is to support the Teachers in providing a safe environment for the children by helping with classroom set-up & clean-up, miscellaneous tasks to support the class during the instruction time, and serving as a roaming front desk by monitoring the Woodhaven School grounds, checking-in with visitors, and responding to people or activities on premises.



  • Set-up outdoor space every morning and clean-up outdoor space every afternoon.

  • Perform continuous grounds sweeps throughout the day checking for safety concerns; monitoring the parking lot and other entry points to the property

  • Politely check-in with all visitors on premises; alert staff of visitors as necessary.

  • Sign in and out all staff, students and visitors using Woodhaven’s electronic forms.

  • Help with student drop-off, carrying crates and/or guiding students to the group.

  • Participate in meals with the class and model appropriate behavior for the children.

  • Help with monitoring and assisting the children as delegated by the Lead Teacher.

  • Assist with guiding children back to the group if they leave the group.

  • Serve as runner, fetching miscellaneous items for the staff throughout the day.

  • Help clean-up from messy activities like art and snack time.

  • Support during transitions like moving from inside the classroom to outside.

  • Help with special projects as delegated by the Lead Teacher or the Board

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Passionate about nature and its importance in healthy child development

  • Comfortable and confident spending the school day outside, regardless of weather

  • Able to move safely over uneven terrain and lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.

  • Able to identify and respond to suspicious situations safely.

  • Able to work closely with parents who teach and administer the school.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Pass federal background check, be registered in the Oregon Registry (background check) and have current CPR/First Aid certification, and food handlers license prior to starting date 

Job Type: Part time, approx. 28 hours a week

Regular Schedule: M-F, 8:15 am - 1:15 pm

Employment Period: 2022/23 school year, August 15, 2022 through June 4, 2023 (44 weeks) 

Salary: $15 per hour
